Tuesday, October 22, 2019

The Trine University men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opponent Adrian (Mich.) College at Docking Stadium in Adrian, Mich.

Adrian (10-5-1, 2-2-1 MIAA) scored the first two goals of the game with the first one coming just 3:32 into the opening half that gave the Bulldogs the early 1-0 lead. Approaching the midway point of the period, Adrian struck again to end the scoring in the first half and took a two-goal margin into the locker rooms, 2-0.

The deficit remained a pair of goals until the 73rd minute when Trine's (5-8, 1-4 MIAA) Ivar Arroyo (El Paso, Texas/Bel Air) scored his first collegiate goal and pulled the Thunder to within a score, 2-1. Sophomore Trevor Towghi (Portage, Mich./Portage Northern) was credited with an assist on the Arroyo goal, his second assist of the season.

But shortly after the Arroyo goal, Adrian extended the margin back to two goals with its third overall score of the game that came at the 79:26 minute mark to make it a 3-1 contest.

The two-goal differential was enough for the Bulldogs the rest of the way and secured a 3-1 victory on their home turf.

Freshman goalkeeper Austin Hensley (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) started in net for Trine and played all 90 minutes. He made a total of nine saves in 12 shots faced.

Trine will stay on the road and travel to Holland, Mich. on Saturday, Oct. 26 for a MIAA matchup against Hope College. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
