(INDIANAPOLIS) – Indiana lawmakers have approved the State budget at over $45 billion.
House Bill 1001 was approved by both the Indiana House and Senate on Friday, just prior to the end of the 2025 legislative session. The Indiana House approved the budget by a vote of 66-27 and the Indiana Senate approved it 39-11.
There are some significant changes to the budget, including cuts to education, Medicaid and public media. The tax on cigarettes and other tobacco products will be increasing by $2, which triples the tax to roughly $3 a pack.
Most of the money from the cigarette tax will be going toward Medicaid.
Governor Mike Braun’s office says the bill hasn’t made it to his desk yet. The budget requires signatures from the House Speaker, the Senate Pro Tem and the Lieutenant Governor before it gets to Braun. He has seven days left to sign the House bill.
