(COLDWATER) – Cases brought against a Coldwater Lake man have been put on hold after a hearing determined he is not competent to stand trial.
Branch County District Court officials say during a hearing last Friday, the ruling came down against 22 year old McCain Snyder, who is facing two counts of assault with intent to murder and two counts of failure to stop at the scene of a serious impairment crash.
In addition, Snyder is facing charges of aggravated stalking of persons other than the crash victims, and charges of using a computer to commit a crime and malicious use of a telephone service.
The charges stem from an incident June 10 in Kinderhook Township after Snyder allegedly ran down and injured the grandparents of a woman that he was reportedly stalking.
According to Michigan State Police, Snyder allegedly drove his pick up into the grass as he drove out of Simco Drive, striking 81 year old David Sluyter and his 77 year old wife Jill Sluyter. Troopers say the Sluyter’s were walking to Synder’s mother’s home to let her know about accusations he made against them of molesting their granddaughter.
District Court officials say in June Snyder was ordered to have an examination for criminal competency and responsibility.
Snyder remains held on a $10 million bond. Authorities are trying to get him into a State hospital.
Snyder’s probable cause hearing has been rescheduled for December 3.
