GOSHEN – Sentencing for a man charged with murdering a Columbia City woman and robbing a Sturgis man has been delayed a month.
Officials with Elkhart County Circuit Court says 25 year old Matthew Murzynski was to appear May 6 to be sentenced for his part in the death of 31 year old Kimberly Dyer and the robbery of Robert Porter of Sturgis, in October 2019. In March, Murzynski plead guilty to a felony charge of aiding, inducing or causing armed robbery resulting in serious bodily injury and another felony charge of aiding, inducing or causing criminal confinement. He could face up to 60 years in prison. As part of the plea agreement, a fourth charge along with two outstanding cases were dropped.
Murzynski will be sentenced on June 3, following the trial of 22 year old Donald Owen Jr. and 20 year old Mario Angulo Jr., who were also arrested in connection with the crimes. Owen is accused of giving the order to kill Dyer, with Angulo killing her by slitting her throat in the basement of a house on Old Orchard Lane near Elkhart. They are also charged with capturing Porter, who was at the house dealing marijuana. Porter was beaten during the two days he and Dyer were held. Court officials say Murzynski, Owen and Angulo were known to each other through some alleged affiliations in different ways with the Latin Kings gang.
