The Coldwater Downtown Development Authority is seeking developers to renovate a downtown building.
The DDA is hoping to renovate the building at 60 West Chicago Street, which is the former home of Taylor's Stationers. It's a three story building with over 19,000 square feet of floor space.
According to Brad Rockey, Chairman of the Coldwater DDA, in exchange for
redeveloping the building, the DDA has lined up several incentives. They include a generous below market sales price, a tax abatement plan, rebates for facade improvements and assistance with applying to any state and federal grant program offered to downtown development authorities.
The Coldwater DDA purchased the building in late 2019 with the goal of
encouraging downtown development that meets the needs of the downtown district and the Coldwater community at large.
A Request For Qualifications is now available, allowing potential developers to submit proof of their qualifications and intentions.
Included in the RFQ are a list of preferred development features and an explanation of the incentives. Some of these preferred features include mixed use development and ground floor space for retail.
This is part of a larger effort to revitalize downtown Coldwater as residents, businesses, community organizations and the municipality look for ways to improve the district.
Interested applicants may find the RFQ on the City of Coldwater website, which is coldwater.org. You may also contact Economic Development Assistant Audrey Tappenden by calling 517-279-6913, or by e-mailing her at atappenden@coldwater.org.
