At approximately 1:39 P.M. Thursday, in the area 2935 North 500 West in LaGrange County, a young boy was traveling northbound on the edge of road on his bicycle where where a 2000 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Robert Mauck Jr., age 64 of Shipshewana was traveling in the same direction.
Mauck did not see the boy on his bike on the edge roadway, resulting in his vehicle striking the boy in the head with the passenger side rearview mirror.
Luke Bontrager, age 9 of Shipshewana, flipped over top of the handle bars and landed along side the road. Bontrager complained of head pain and suffered some minor cuts and bruises. He was later taken to Parkview LaGrange Hospital to be evaluated for his injuries. Mauck was inijured in the accident.
The incident remains under investigation. Assisting at the scene were Parkview LaGrange Medics and LaGrange Fire Department.
