Following the Memorial Day tornadoes that ripped across various sections of Ohio, the insured losses will be among the largest in the Buckeye State’s history.

According to The Columbus Dispatch, Ohio Insurance Institute data estimates that the total losses from the storms is somewhere in the neighborhood of $465 million and $480 million with claims still being processed.

Several tornadoes touched down across 10 counties in Ohio during the severe storms back on May 27th and 28th, which resulted in more than 30,000 claims being filed so far, mostly for damage to homes or automobiles.

The record for insurance loses from a storm dates back to the tornadoes that hit the Xenia area in western Ohio back in 1974 which led to losses of $1.1 billion.
